Yes... the rumors are true... The Weather Channel will start naming winter storms and blizzards this year just as hurricanes are named each year. The first time I heard this, I thought the idea was crazy. But then they made a good point about why they are doing this. I will share that with you in a moment. Here are the names you can expect to hear this winter when you flip over to The Weather Channel:

Attaching a name makes it much easier to follow a weather system’s progress.
A storm with a name takes on a personality all its own, which adds to awareness.
In today’s social media world, a name makes it much easier to reference in communication.
A named storm is easier to remember and refer to in the future.
