Carrie Underwood received a standing ovation during her headline performance at the TIME 100 Gala held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City Tuesday night. The event honored present and past recipients of the 100 most influential people in the world. Some of this year’s honorees in attendance were Amy Adams, Seth Meyers, Rupert Murdoch, Rand Paul, Charlie Rose, Christy Turlington, and more. Underwood was also honored as one of this years’ TIME 100 in addition to Hillary Clinton, Pope Francis, Robert Redford, President Barack Obama and many more. The full TIME100 list and related tributes appear in the May 5 issue of TIME, available on newsstands and tablets now.

Kacey Musgraves will be the first country music artist to perform at the annual New York Media GLAAD Awards. In a press release, GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said, "America’s heartland is changing and support for equality continues to grow across party lines, in our faith institutions, and in country music. Kacey Musgraves is ushering in a new era in the country music industry, where supporting all loving families is now a core country value. It’s only fitting that then Kacey is to become the first country must artist to perform at the New York GLAAD Media Awards." Musgraves will be introduced by openly gay country artist Chely Wright, who performed at the GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco in 2010.

Merle Haggard's son Ben told Country Weekly this week that on the new all-star album Working Man’s Poet: A Tribute to Merle Haggard – which features artists like Jason Aldean, Jake Owen, Joe Nichols, Thompson Square and Randy Houser – it's the cover of "Pancho And Lefty" done by Luke Bryan and Dierks Bentley that really stand outs for him. The younger Haggard says, “They definitely put their own thing to it. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a hit. It could be a monster—again." The song was originally a hit for Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson in the 1980's. (Photo Credit:  www.nashvillekat.com )

Sugarland's Kristian Bush has decided it's time for him to do a solo album project and he has reunited with longtime producer Byron Gallimore to do so. The album will be released on Streamsound Records, of which Gallimore is a co-owner. Kristian says, “I’m so excited to be working with Byron again. I’m constantly surprised at how creative I feel and how innovative he is every time we hit record."
